The Bembridge Harbour Trust has the aim, when the opportunity arises, of purchasing Bembridge Harbour from its current owners.

In this way the Trust seeks to preserve this working harbour, and its surrounding waterfront as an area of natuaral beauty, an amenity for waterside recreational pusuits (like sailing/watersports, angling/fishing and bird watching) and as a well kept and desirable residential and business location.

The Trust aims to prevent the harbour from becoming a wasting asset through neglect, or over expoitation, by commercial interests. The Trust will also seek to ensure that those responsible for preserving the harbour amenities and for maintenance, such as dredging, navigation marks and sewage disposal, meet their obligations.

If the Trust were successful in purchasing the harbour, it would then set up a subsiduary limited company called "The Harbour Commission". The commissioners will consist of the necessary experts in the fields of finance, law, marketing and marine management. The Chief Executive would be the Harbour Master and the Chariman would be a Bembridge Harbour Trust trustee.
